Hello everyone,

I will be moving soon and want to take my Faktum kitchen with me.
The kitchen will be expanded with base cabinets since the new kitchen is larger.

I would like to buy the Akerby countertop, but unfortunately it is only available up to a length of 246 cm.
I need about 350 cm. I don’t like the look of segmenting and connecting it with the Fixa metal connector piece.
Are there other ways to extend the countertop so that it looks good and no water can get in?

How did you solve this?

Personlig in solid oak is too expensive for me..
Hardware store boards are too narrow and I really like Akerby.

Regards, Steffi

Hello,
at Bauhaus there are inexpensive 62 cm deep countertops.

I would extend the Akerby as you do with corner joints.
Buy countertop connectors.
Use a Forstner bit and router to create the outer recess for the connectors.
Mill grooves on the end faces of the boards.
Use matching plywood pieces as a tongue.
Glue tongue and groove.
Seal the end faces with silicone before assembling.

Thanks for the tip about Bauhau, I immediately looked online. Unfortunately, you can only find countertops with a depth of 60cm on the site, I guess I’ll have to drive by sometime. The connection as you suggest sounds really professional but also complicated. Unfortunately, I don’t have a router and the grooves have to be the same height on both sides, I wonder if you can manage that well, for example, with a Dremel??? Regards Steffi

We also have an Ikea kitchen and a DIY store countertop that was pieced together. For that, we have this here and the countertops are joined without water, glue, or any other gimmicks. A large hole is needed in both countertops from below & the rib in both countertops. With a drill & a bit of craftsmanship, this should be doable on a Saturday.

You can get a worktop up to 4 meters long at Ikea, however, an order is necessary and a waiting period of 4 weeks.

If it is made in sections, water could penetrate, and for the sink cutout I would put silicone on it. I am also soon buying an Ikea kitchen and need a worktop of 3.30 meters, so order and wait 4 weeks.

Best regards

Hello
The easiest way would be to simply glue the two countertops together. Ideally at a spot where the ends rest well on a cabinet.
Either you leave them as they are and glue them together, then you will have a small groove at the joint.
The display kitchens at Ikea also have this groove, it is not very large and not necessarily bothersome.
If you don't want a groove, have the countertops cut straight at the joints at a hardware store and then glue them together.
You probably can't do anything else (milled corner joints) yourself; for that you would have to call a carpenter.
best regards
