Wall motion detectors/PMs can be installed at different heights... they do not have to be placed at the step... anything above 50 cm practically does not detect pets...

The lens then naturally has to be partially covered towards the stairs... so that pets do not come in from the other side.

There are also motion detectors/PMs with pet immunity.

Just as well, the detectors can be installed the other way around so that they "look" upwards; visually there is no difference but technically a completely different function. In this case, pets are also no longer detected...

With us, the detector is positioned very high above the platform so that it can recognize someone using the stairs both at the top and at the bottom.

Creepy (IMHO) these whole house automatisms ops: You walk lightly dressed through the hallway/stairs and suddenly the light turns on. In my opinion, the light in the house should be switched "manually," everything else is sterile. Better install eco bulbs, they can also burn longer if necessary. (if forgotten to turn off!)

Yes, it is also bad when [STUFENbeleuchtung] turns on...

But I didn't want automatic stairwell lighting either - only in the upstairs hallway does it turn on dimmed and in the basement hallway at full brightness.

Right, there's everything... But you have to at least remember and take it into account.

So I think something like that is the opposite of creepy, it is so much easier, for example, to come home in the evening and not have to look for light switches and turn lights on and off, but simply walk in, take off your shoes, and relax... the lights turn off by themselves in the meantime.
