How many power sockets do you have? Do we need more?

Hello everyone,

we are supposed to meet soon with the electrician (but I think initially for the penetrations through the [Filigrandecke] (?)). Still, we wanted to address the socket issue.

According to our construction description, we have a total of 85 pieces (give or take) for ~190 m².
In the children's rooms (~15 m²), for example, there are 7 sockets (1x single, 3x double) and one outlet for telephone (LAN) and one for television. Is that okay? I think my childhood room had 3 sockets (but that was rather poor).

The living room has 12 sockets (+ telephone and television), the kitchen 10 (including appliance connections), the dining room separately another 8, the bathrooms two double sockets etc. etc.
What do you usually have in the living room? TV, playback device, speakers, telephone, 2 cabinets with lighting, a floor lamp, 2 laptop cables, a charging phone, vacuum cleaner, music system... that’s already 12 without much effort.

How much does an additional socket cost? I have read everything from 50 to 150 €.

Thanks for your input,
Best regards

While I'm asking here: is one ceiling outlet sufficient for, e.g., the children's rooms, or should you have two or another one on the wall?

We discussed our sockets together with the electrician during the shell construction before the ceiling was concreted. A second time then on the upper floor. I found that very practical, as he also contributed his experience and we didn’t have to plan everything based on a piece of paper.

That probably always depends on the layout of your rooms and your requirements. I can’t even tell you how many sockets we have in total. We have a double socket in almost every corner of the living room. Behind the TV 4 + network and antenna. Also partly at the roller shutter / light switches. Then another double socket practically in our sideboard where the telephone will be placed later and a double socket next to it where the cell phones will be charged. Also think about outdoor sockets with switch and outdoor lighting and a cable where you can later connect power for a garden house or similar. Hallway also at the most important spots. We always considered where you might need to plug in the vacuum cleaner, etc. The children’s rooms were the most difficult. We considered two or three possible arrangements because kids often want to change things. We then installed a socket at all the necessary points (sometimes really single). Also at the possible points for desk/TV network, antenna and of course a triple socket. In the utility room and basement substitute room, I also generously distributed sockets and at least one double socket in every corner. Also important: three-phase connection in the garage.

Nothing. We have a flat rate. But the electrician didn’t skimp and rather recommended placing one socket more.

We have only one ceiling outlet. But that also depends on the layout. Our children’s rooms are simply rectangular.

From negative experience (we had to retrofit splitters and desplitters expensively) I can only recommend always having TV connections installed with two cables and sockets, so that you can watch and record in another channel area at the same time. In addition, a LAN connection next to the TV socket is advisable ([NAS access etc.]). Sylvia

As the previous poster said: It depends on the layout - you can't say that across the board.

We have planned just under 170 sockets for 195 m² of living space (plus utility space)...44 x LAN and 14 x SAT. Everyone has different requirements...

May I ask what you intend to do with 44 LAN sockets?
