How does it work with the countertop?

Hello,

I have decided to plan my kitchen at Ikea, 3.12 m kitchen units now want to be brought to life.

I have thought about having the kitchen installed and the electrical appliances connected by a third party and have already obtained corresponding offers. That way, at the end of the day, I would have my kitchen completely set up and installed (I hope).

What I still can't quite imagine is: How does the cutting of the countertop work? I have read somewhere that this is only done in connection with the basic assembly by IKEA?? But I think I saw a price comparison table in the IKEA kitchen catalog with and without cutting....

I will soon present my kitchen plan and get your opinions on it.

Hi,

first of all, there are no basic installations anymore.

Ikea has standard countertops from Prägel and Numerär in lengths of 186cm and 246cm. Edge banding is always included in the package to shorten these countertops. Ikea itself does not cut countertops, you always have to do or arrange this yourself. Some stores allegedly work with local carpenters who cut the countertops for a small fee. Ours does not.

Otherwise, you can have countertops custom made. In your desired length with cutouts, various edges, bevels, etc. Many things are possible, but of course, everything costs money. Cutouts from laminate countertops are always a bit tricky. There are stores where you can order cutouts without problems, without countertop measurement and sometimes even for third-party cooktops and sinks.

Personally, I don’t do this at all. The reason is simple. High return rates because customers suddenly changed their minds about the decor, the kitchen suddenly has different dimensions, angle deviations were not taken into account, or the countertop, despite inquiries, does not fit through the too narrow stairwell. All things that are explained extensively beforehand, but in the end, no one remembers. Therefore, set up the kitchen, order a countertop measurement and THEN order the countertop. It should also be considered that the dimensions of the cabinets are subject to tolerances. A 60cm base cabinet, for example, is not 60cm according to the kitchen planner but 59.8cm. If this is not properly considered in the countertop calculation, the cooktop can quickly "shift" above the cabinet. So always have a measurement taken if you insist on cutouts. The 70€ are also well invested for your safety.

To conclude, if you want to have the kitchen installed anyway by a [Montagefirma XY], why don’t you have the countertop adjusted on site? If necessary, take it a little longer and without cutouts and order extra edge banding to cover the cuts again.

Did I explain it somewhat understandably?

Regards

Nayla
