How and where do you dry your laundry?

Fewer and fewer people are building a basement under their house. Many tend to have a separate utility room on the upper floor, where the laundry is done - this room is usually limited to a few square meters. Most have to make do with a +-6 sqm small technical room (size specifications by the most common house providers), where just next to one or two shelves there is still space for a washing machine. The rest of the house is strictly planned as well.

How do you handle your dry laundry? Especially in a household with children, I think you really have to juggle a bit, don’t you?

With us, towels/underwear/bedding are completely dried in the tumble dryer until the end. The remaining laundry is partially dried in the dryer and then hung on the drying rack in the utility room on the upper floor. In summer, it is taken outside to the garden. In the garden, however, we only have a drying rack and no rotary clothesline, as the rack can be quickly brought inside in case of rain.

The majority goes in the dryer, shirts and strange special clothes of my wife are dried on the drying rack in the sewing room or in the summer on the balcony.

However, I only have one [ETW] and everything is on the same level.

We dry our laundry the "old-fashioned" way on the clothesline! In summer, outside on the rotary dryer (we have two ground sockets so we can move the dryer depending on the position of the sun), in winter we hang the laundry in the utility room, where there are clotheslines across the room, allowing a full load to be hung at once. Additionally, a drying rack also fits into the utility room. Thanks to the supply and exhaust air in the utility room, the laundry dries much faster than in our old house! We do not have a dryer and do not want one. Apart from the space issue (if at all, it would probably have to be in the "children's bathroom"), I don’t find it energetically sensible, as drying laundry in the air saves both money and the environment. Moreover, we buy new clothes very, very rarely, so I take special care of our things. I would be afraid that something would shrink or wear out faster in the dryer. However, my parents next door do have a dryer (which they only use rarely), where we can occasionally dry large items like bedding in winter. That is more than enough for us.

Then I'll out us: In the living room on the clothes drying rack. When there are guests, then not, or if necessary on the clothes drying rack in the study (emergency solution, space-related). Recently also on the terrace.

Later expansion stage: In the garden (which is still lying fallow). But I think in winter more often inside... hands get cold otherwise. And regularly outside will only be possible when the laundry area is covered (final expansion, 2017?).

We don't have a dryer, but we would have space for one. It just hasn't been an issue so far.

Hi,

*gg* I won’t say what came to my mind...

Almost everything is in the dryer at our place, otherwise it gets too damp in the utility room. Shirts, sweaters and such things of course not. In summer sometimes a drying rack in the garden. But no rotary clothesline...!! *shudder*

Best regards,

Andreas
