Technology / utility room on the upper floor, opinions?

The washing machine and dryer will be placed upstairs on the floor where the children's rooms are located, as most of the laundry is generated there! Between the bathroom and utility room, there will be a frosted glass sliding door so that the bathroom can still be used, for example, while ironing.

@ Bieber: I specifically observed the drying behavior of the laundry in the utility room yesterday and today for you: A load of sweaters, hung up yesterday at 8 pm at 21°C and 42% humidity, was practically dry by 9 am today (except for my husband's thick sweater, which was still slightly damp), and the humidity was then 50%.

We have
- house connections on the ground floor
- washing machine and dryer on the upper floor in a 3sqm room accessible from the bathroom through a door
- boiler in the attic (for us 2nd upper floor)

Makes some things easier, but costs about 3x the space.

I have a question as an outsider for the “washing machine + dryer upstairs owner“:

How do you handle drying laundry in the summer? Do you also use the dryer instead of the clothesline in the garden?

And what about noise disturbance in the bedrooms? (For example, when the kids are already asleep in the evening, but you still need to dry or wash laundry for the next day) Isn’t it more sensible not to have the machines next door?

Do you do the ironing and folding of the clothes upstairs then in the bedroom or where?

So far, I know it mostly this way, that you iron and fold the dry laundry partly in the living area.. Otherwise, for example, the kids play in the living room and the mom is alone upstairs working away?

Or what are your experiences?

We have a washing machine and dryer in the utility room in the basement. Towels and underwear are always washed there because they also go in the dryer. There is a second washing machine in the bathroom on the upper floor. It washes regular laundry, which is then hung on the drying racks on the balcony or, for large items or ideal weather, on the rotary dryer in the garden. When the weather is very bad, there is a drying rack in the bathroom. However, this rarely happens.

We do not dry in the garden at all (it does not allow for that), but rather in the dryer and on the drying rack.

You can already hear the washing machine from the floor, so it does not run during sleeping hours or very rarely. The dryer is okay, but can be heard minimally.

Folding is done somewhere in the house, wherever it fits at the moment. Ironing is practically not done ...
