I find the total of 220€ for electricity and gas quite high, but water/sewage is rather low for 4 people. Building insurance costs us less than half. Unlike Steffen, I do not find the food budget of 690€ to be too low. But this topic comes up in many of his threads.

What really added up for us in the first year after moving in were bills for garden tools and landscaping. This should decrease again the following year, but this position with the garden will never completely disappear. (Plants by season, bed edging, soil, bark mulch, composter, etc.)

I also do not find 240€ a year for gifts to be generous. With 2 children, that easily goes for the kids at Christmas, birthdays, Nikolaus, Easter, etc. Clothing 100€ for 4 people is, in my opinion, nothing at all. Just looking at the shoe usage of our little one and you have 2 kids, then I don’t know how you manage that.

Otherwise, of course, you also have quite a few buffers in there. Pocket money here, piggy bank there, reserves for the house, reserves for special repayments, diapers will stop eventually, daycare becomes cheaper when transitioning to kindergarten, etc.

I think the savings rate for new cars is good. Many people don't think that far.

sorry.. I had only read 500 EUR. 690 EUR is of course great! I was thinking of 4 people the whole time. But there are currently only three, right?

Exactly! Thumbs up. I have been doing this for almost 10 years now. When buying a new car, there is always a standing order set up directly to an "invisible" car account for the next car. Important: out of sight.. out of mind.

Actually, it worries me less because, in my opinion, we have some buffers in place that are generous, and in the long term, I will earn more (provided that one stays healthy, of course), and my wife, due to working in the public service, will also increase her classification in the coming years.
But on the topic of parental leave, if I have understood everything correctly that I have read about financing, it is such that you initially only pay interest and principal on the amount that has actually been drawn, and with the SAB it is also the case that I think for the first year (I believe for the additional subsidy even the first two years) you are not allowed to repay principal, so there is a certain security here.
However, I am of the opinion, based on everything I have read, that the bank (whether SAB or XYZ) will not provide financing as long as or if my wife is on parental leave, or are there other experiences/opinions here?

Regarding gifts, I can only say that except for our children, all other acquaintances receive nothing except maybe my parents sometimes get a bar of chocolate. But I agree with you, just to be safe, I should probably add €100 - 200 more per year.
Furthermore, I have to say that we easily manage with €100 (currently for 3). I am not fond of shopping, my wife is not someone who dresses up fancy either ... rather down-to-earth, but yes, most of the money goes toward the little one's shoes. I hope that will get better.
