So are nurse, car mechanic, etc. not down-to-earth jobs? If at least one partner does not have an academic education, it won't work anymore. Even if both work, as we see in the neighboring thread with 4650 euros net, nothing is possible.

Unfortunately, I have too often experienced that the women want to, but the employers make maximum effort to get rid of mothers. So easy-peasy re-entry and the same development as before having children, I have seen in very few cases. And only with women who have just one child. At the latest with the second child, you end up in the second row or have to look for something new. Most young women/couples with a desire to have children completely fail to recognize that. Especially Corona has reinforced this once again. But that is really quite off topic.

I wouldn’t say that about the academic education. According to the IG Metall collective agreement, you earn really well with only 35 hours and often still receive a good bonus from the employer during short-time work. In contrast, there are many academics from (I’ll call them hobby courses of study) who don’t bring in much financially.

But I also find that nurses earn too little. There are certainly other jobs where this is the case (educators).

Indeed.
For example, with a (hypothetical) €300,000 loan in 2008 at 4.6% and a payment of €1,600, you basically pay the same (loan + interest) if you now need €500,000 at 1% with a payment of €1,600.

That also means if prices remain stable and interest rates rise a bit, it will become (even) a bit more expensive…

BUT: With the inflated land prices since 2010…2015…overall, it has become more expensive anyway!

Well, I want to emphasize that there are plenty of people in my circle who earn less than we do. Only that sometimes the plots of land are already owned or grandma gives a gift of 200k. Of course, the annuity still has to be paid, but if you already have a head start of 200-300k, the house can also be more expensive, no problem.
