Hello everyone,
we are currently planning the construction of a relatively large single-family house (living area including the rooms in the basement used as living space approx. 450 sqm).

In addition, we are building an outdoor pool that is also to be heated from April to October. Ideally, this should not be heated by a separate heating system but integrated into the heating concept.

I generally prefer to invest a bit more and have lower running costs in return.

The construction companies preferably suggest an air-water heat pump because it involves the least effort for them (no chimney needed, no solar required).

However, I am somewhat skeptical about heating such a large house and the pool only with a heat pump.

Therefore, the question:
What is a sensible solution for the heating here? Heat pump? In combination with solar or photovoltaics? Gas condensing boiler with solar or photovoltaics? Or even a mini combined heat and power plant?

I would really appreciate input on this..

Hello,

How big is the pool? Be sure to cover it at night!
Is the house built only according to the Energy Saving Ordinance or is it a passive house?
We have a similar project, just a bit bigger.
Including the pool in the heating concept only makes sense if the pool is located directly next to the house.
Gas + photovoltaic is the most cost-effective option.
For a small pool, I could also imagine hydrogen + gas.
A mini combined heat and power plant doesn’t make sense because the heat and electricity demand is not high and constant enough.
Please provide a few more facts.
Regards

The house is only [Energieeinsparverordnung]. At the moment, I don't see how the additional cost for KFW 55 or better would be worthwhile.

In any case, it will have a ventilation system with heat recovery.

The pool is 10x4m and will of course have a cover.
It is directly at the house, separated only by a 3m terrace.

Do you want a fireplace anyway for coziness, etc.? Then it might be worth considering a water-bearing fireplace in combination with a heat pump to relieve the heat pump in winter. Unfortunately, I don't know if that would also work well in combination with [Photovoltaik].

Thank you for the additional information.
Your house is estimated to require a heating system with 15-20 KW.
In addition, there is the pool. You have just under 60m3 of water (at normal depth).
Whether the boiler is somewhat larger does not make much difference in terms of cost. Therefore, it’s better to plan with reserves.
I recommend a gas condensing boiler of about 40 KW plus photovoltaics on the roof. Together with your controlled residential ventilation with heat recovery, the energy saving regulation should be met.
It is important to size the heat exchanger large enough. For your pool size, 50KW at 30/40° (usually specified at 70° or 90°!!!). I would choose a titanium plate heat exchanger. Durable and independent of what system you use in the pool (saltwater, ozone, bromine, chlorine...).
You need a separate heating circuit with a temperature limiter (55°C).

You apparently have a similar attitude. Better to invest a little more, then have peace of mind and lower maintenance. Therefore, I recommend the Speck Badu as a pool pump. Which type depends on your exact pool design. These pumps are very economical, durable, and have very good spare parts availability.

A water-heated fireplace is a toy for this house size (according to energy saving regulation) and with a pool. Better to invest more in the insulation of the pool.
If you have further questions, feel free to contact me.

@Rick, thank you very much for your recommendations!

May I ask why you tend to choose gas condensing boiler instead of heat pump in this case? Are the running costs for a heat pump too high at this size? Perhaps a heat pump with a groundwater probe would be worthwhile?

Would additional insulation for KfW 55 possibly be worth it for us? However, at this house size, it is not exactly cheap.

May I also ask what kind of project you are planning?
