Now I wonder, do you know the local circumstances, i.e., that you yourself don’t hear it, but it annoys others?
And you yourself write, “walk through a new housing development on a cold night…”
Who, please, sits on the terrace next door on a cold night and is disturbed by the device? With the window closed or in summer, however, you normally hardly or do not hear it at all.
You can also be kind yourself and build everything “for the neighbors” as quietly as possible, but then you yourself get “sonically bombarded” by two other neighbors.
Our neighbor has his outdoor unit on our side and we also have the bedroom on that side. With the window closed you hear nothing, likewise in summer when the window is open.

I was completely shocked when I heard the outdoor unit from inside the closed car a few weeks ago in our new housing development. Luckily not a direct neighbor! Incredible..

Hi,

There are supposed to be people who like to sleep with the window open even in winter... And then these things are really annoying!

I always say.... This thing probably exceeds all limit values but what exactly can you do as a neighbor without starting major stress right away?
Our future neighbors have such an absolute prime example. It seems all the bearings are broken, the thing rattles like nothing else. Thank God it’s on the side facing away from us...

Best regards,

Andreas

Our new neighbor has a split unit from Viessmann hanging on the outside wall. Even below 0°C, it was audible but not unpleasant, a quiet rustling noise at a distance of 3 meters. It always depends on the position. In our case, the technical rooms are usually on the side where the neighbor already has a carport or garage due to the connection situation.

Due to the current situation with me, I can only say that one should carefully consider bothering their neighbors with such a noise source. There are good systems, large distances, and suitable properties. Wherever I cannot approve these points, one should be alert. Such a pump also runs for several hours in the summer for hot water and then at full load to manage the flow. In winter, with subzero temperatures, freezing evaporators, and heating demand, it does not get any better. In the worst case, your neighbor may overwhelm you with injunction lawsuits due to emissions. Therefore, I share Uwe’s point: It depends on the location!
