we initially had a plastic roof for our south terrace. that didn’t work at all in summer, its function was more like an "autumn/spring rain thing." overall, it was rather unnecessary to pointless. sure, you can hang something underneath, but that also costs money. since the roof of the attached carport had to be rethought anyway, we decided on metal with antidrip. yes, the window, or rather the room behind the canopy, is a bit darker. but now in summer it’s simply cooler underneath, and the sun doesn’t beat down through the roof. because honestly: if the sun is high enough to come through the roof, you’d rather sit in the shade. alternatively, not everything is covered and you can fry 3-4 meters further in the sun.
