If the heat can escape from a glass roof at the sides and front, the temperature will not be significantly higher than the surrounding area, even with internal shading. For darkening through a glass roof with a supporting timber structure: Not noticeable inside. Feel free to get an idea via pm.

One more small addition: Although we used light-colored stones, our terrace (west side) heats up significantly in the summer from noon onwards. In the afternoon, this is sometimes unbearable. I would rather hope that the large-scale shading would result in less heat being stored in the stones and in the adjacent house wall. As Nordmann already mentioned, the roof is open on the sides, so the heat can also escape.

I assume that you did not build your terrace roof over the winter?

My wife and I are facing the same question and after much back and forth decided on the glass roof with shading.

The main reason was, as with you, also the lack of light on the "not high summer days." Since there are more of these than the high summer days, we decided on this and simply want to put a large fan under the roof.

We have not yet gone looking for an installer, but have often seen that you can also leave an "air gap" at the top where the warm air can escape.

If someone has a glass terrace roof, they can report on their experience...?

If you have the money for the aluminum slats and you like them, then I would take them since you are flexible. Open, half open depending on the sun is ideal. For us, it will only be enough for a normal glass roof.

I would also be interested to know how hot it gets under the glass roof.

Best regards

Hello everyone,
Last year we treated ourselves to an aluminum glass louver roof with a glass folding system and we are very impressed.
Especially now in winter when it is so cold outside, you can sit in the 18-20 degree warm cold conservatory in the sunshine.
But you have to be careful. On the internet, there are many providers offering the same system, but most are just salespeople and not manufacturers. There are not many companies that can produce something like this. In Germany, I believe there are only 4 and not all make the louvers from glass but only with double-skinned sheets, which was not an option for us because of the drum effect.
As far as the light incidence is concerned, we did not lose anything because you can choose between clear glass and opal glass. Regarding the heat in midsummer, you can also endure it underneath because we can open the louvers and the heat can escape at the top.
Overall, we are very satisfied so far and can only recommend such a roof.
In terms of price, it was quite affordable when you buy directly from the manufacturer and have it installed.
If anyone wants, I can also send some pictures.

Best regards
Remzi
