Hello everyone,

we are building a small house and a double garage of about 45 sqm. In this, we are installing fluorescent tubes so that when we do some tinkering, it is nice and bright. We have a direct access from the garage to the house and want the light to turn on when we go into the garage and, for example, get into the car, and then turn off by itself again, the same when we arrive home with the car and, for example, only get out after the garage has closed again.

Actually, I would install a lamp with a motion detector next to the fluorescent tubes, but I don't want the motion detector to keep turning the light on and off when I am working in the garage. How can this be solved more cleverly?

I am also still a bit undecided about the terrace. We want a motion detector here so that if someone creeps around the house, the light turns on. However, we don't want the terrace to be illuminated as if we are in a football stadium when we are sitting there. That should be switchable somehow?

I still have appointments with the electrician, but I would like to know in advance how something like this can be best solved.

Garage: Should actually be able to be solved using the gate drive. Depending on the drive, there is a 230V output to switch the light when the gate opens/closes.

Terrace: Connect a motion detector to a switch. Then you can control when you want floodlights.

We have a lamp installed on the garage door opener that turns on as soon as the door is operated... but it really doesn’t illuminate much... and when you go from the utility room into the garage, it also doesn’t turn on automatically...

I have 2 switchable damp room lights in my garage, as well as a lamp with a built-in motion detector... so as soon as I enter the garage, it turns on... and when I drive the car out, it turns off... constant ON and OFF is actually not a problem... because you can set the brightness threshold for switching on.

So it only turns on at a certain level of darkness... if the door is open, it stays "OFF". I also have the fluorescent tubes on at the same time, because otherwise it’s too bright.

I also have two lights on my terrace that I can switch from inside. For this, I installed a double switch that controls both.

With this, I can then completely switch "OFF," to "motion detector," or permanently "ON"...

But there are also special switches that allow this... but cost about 60 euros... our electrician implemented it with a simple double switch.

Sounds like a great solution. How can one imagine that? Completely on/off on the left and motion sensor on/off on the right? Do you happen to have the diagram at hand?

Both clicked up means off for us... both clicked down means on... and only one clicked (top left and bottom right) means motion detector... maybe that helps you further..

Hello everyone,

thanks for the reply - I think I had a misconception regarding the garage. I did not consider that the motion detector does not trigger when the light is on, as it is too bright.

Double switch means two switches?

Thanks and regards
