Hello, maybe you can help me or share your experiences. We received offers for windows and front doors last week. Actually, we were supposed to be offered aluminum front doors. However, plastic doors were offered as an option, which are much cheaper. I have now heard different opinions from various experts. One says it is only a question of appearance, another says aluminum is definitely preferable due to security, insulation,... Spontaneously, I would say if it is only about appearance, I could live well with a plastic front door given the price difference (about €2500 per door). We also need 2 doors because we have a separate entrance to the office area. Who has a plastic front door or can tell me the advantages and disadvantages?

We have plastic. No one really breaks into front doors of new buildings because the patio doors can simply be cracked a thousand times easier. If you enter through the front door, the lock is picked and the material doesn’t matter. And insulation? Almost every door can insulate equally well because it is insulated on the inside and/or has multiple chambers (like windows). Modern front doors have such high insulation that the door easily frosts over from the outside in winter. If anything, aluminum would rather have the disadvantage of very high thermal conductivity.

Of course, the more expensive materials are somehow advertised. Take what you like. Wood is also available. A plastic door with an overlapping sash also looks very chic! If you really want to "go all out," take aluminum or wood.

More important than the material, in my opinion, is that it has the correct safety class.

So that straps, hinges, and also exactly bolts/hooks are present.

And of course the right lock.

And of course, not to forget the secure windows, especially in the rear area.

Often the biggest weak point

What kind of door should it be? Single-leaf or more? Side panel? Color? What kind of locking mechanism? You need to know that to be able to assess it.
