Hello forum,

I am currently considering how to best combine a fly screen and sun protection from the outside. An insect screen with a frame does protrude a bit outward. How can you then install sun protection? And what type of sun protection: roller shutters or sunscreens? Or is there something else?

How have you solved the problem of fly screen + sun protection?

We don't have it, but I read in the info about our roller shutter box that you can additionally hang a fly screen there. Maybe something like that is an option, but unfortunately I can't tell you anything more specific.

Do you mean by additionally attaching that the fly screen is simply placed under the roller shutters? Or does it roll together with them? I found a "double" roller shutter where the fly screen has its own roller and can be pulled down separately from the sunshade.

We have exterior roller shutters with an integrated fly screen roller blind. Of course, it can be used separately. Works great. Summer down, winter up. Using venetian blinds is difficult because of the space required; we have clamp frames on the windows.

We have decided on fixed fly screens to hang in the window frame; they stay in year-round; with the warm winters, there is still a lot of year-round stuff going around.

We could have also integrated the fly screens directly into the window (in the outer frame), so that they could have been used like a second roller blind. However, we were not convinced by this at all when trying it out. Something was constantly getting caught, or they only went down jerkily. For us, this screamed guaranteed defect after some use. We will now have something custom-made for the sliding door and terrace door on the ground floor. Our parents-in-law did it this way and the result is really great. The other windows will be equipped with Velcro and screens from the hardware store as needed.
