The kids are not that old yet, and my eldest recently told me that she doesn’t like it if I sleep on a different floor than she does ;)

As a location, only the "Corpus delicti" makes sense. So you want the community to organize the catering along with final cleaning (and possibly liability insurance for the event) so that you don't have any stress?

At 14 (or 11?) that can turn around quite quickly. As five (half) siblings, the kids might find it coolest to have a monkey and horse shared apartment and to have the old ones on another floor (?)

I find that a commendable attitude. The property is atypical, so you will need a lot of patience for resale.

Two shared cars for the kids should be enough. You take whatever is cheap and keep it clean enough so that the siblings can agree on it. Shared car management apps also work without users outside the family.

I would even go a step further. The street to the south has no slope; it is best suited for a wide driveway and possibly parking spaces. Then place the house as far south as possible, so you'll have a lot of leveled space in the north. The trees can then remain standing.

Good tip, even if it's not for us. That is only a problem if resale plays a role in the requirements. We didn’t really care. The financial aspect only becomes a topic in this thread when the OP makes it one.

I once had significantly more money too – that just raises the ceiling, but it still exists. Today, being able to approach the excavator contractor in a relaxed manner as a private insured person and in twenty years being liquid enough to allow a resale to take two years is not the same thing. And last but not least: room size / room tightness, number of rooms and the like are reflected in the sales price, but cubic "kilo"meters / mega tons of moved earth are not. That is probably why I happily advise wealthy builders that they can think more loosely financially than the Müllermeierschulzes – but without completely losing sight of the Swabian perspective. And – just to remain a philosopher if I had kept silent – one last note: the patronage of supporting the unskilled by letting an architect waste ancillary construction costs would never ever ever never ever cross my mind. Nothing against ’s megadido cistern, of course ;-)
