It is, like everything, a matter of taste; personally, 3x2 meters would be too tunnel-like for me, but of course I can understand that other people like it. That's how it should be.
However, this visual comparison here conceals the fact that without the airspace on the upper floor you would get a nice, open area, which is lost with the solution shown here.
Therefore, it is an individual matter of taste to weigh what is more important or more pleasing, and not a question of right or wrong.

you also cut off the entire ceiling... I actually prefer it without the airspace.

That's true, but that wasn't the point. As proves, it is a matter of taste with all its pros and cons. To generally demonize and badmouth an airspace, as some do here, is precisely why it is not productive. It's like claiming that all red cars are crap.

I don't really like the ground floor either, but from above it’s really stylish (whether it’s impractical because of noises/smells we’ll just leave out)
