I see it the same way. A child might live in the attic during their studies, but as soon as a partner comes along and a family is started, they will move out. The attic would also be way too small and there is no balcony. I wouldn't restrict the house planning so much just so that maybe a child could live there for a maximum of 5 years later on.

Best regards
Sabine

Well, I know other examples. Here with us, many houses were built so that a child could maybe live there at some point. And they actually do: even with a partner and their own children. But maybe it's different in the countryside.....

In this case, one should plan a proper granny flat right away.

Exactly! That is what this design is about. It is poorly thought out, no exit (balcony) on the upper floor, room proportions are off, space enough for one person but not for a family. However, I also know situations where processes of detachment, independence, and free space are rigorously ignored, and a child living in separate rooms with parents does not need a washing machine or kitchen because mom needs a purpose. Whether this is wanted and good for both parties must be decided individually. It often works in rural areas, where usually large apartments are maintained, possibly an extension is planned, and independence is encouraged.

Thank you very much for the many responses.

Topic fireplace:
The fireplace is drawn in quite simply, I am now thinking of a corner fireplace as shown in the attached picture.
It should radiate 45 degrees towards the living room and stand directly next to the door.
Possibly even so far that the small window next to the door is only glazed above and the fireplace stands below.
That is why only the 50-70CM, as distance is needed.
Water-bearing fireplaces are also not comparable to "normal" wood stoves, as 70% goes into the water.
Especially on the side, a distance of 20cm is then absolutely sufficient.

Topic granny flat / living on the ground floor:
I think we now have a good opportunity to live comfortably in old age on the ground floor.
The balcony is being considered and can easily be realized with 1-2 supports. (to the west)

On the upper floor, there is a possibility to live as a couple, possibly also with a (small) child.
This would be a nice 2-3-room apartment with kitchen/dining room, living room, and bedroom with dressing room.
We don’t want more than that anyway, I certainly don’t want to realize a proper granny flat for 5 people on 65sqm,
who then also live on my back.

I once sketched out our ideas of what it could look like in old age,
completely by myself, just copy and paste, so nothing from the architect.

I think it’s good as it is, maybe the load-bearing wall can still be moved,
so that a large living/dining room can be made.

Also, I have been thinking about the issue with the toilet in the bathroom.
I'm still a bit undecided.

I’ve uploaded an empty bathroom and 2 designs with the correct measurements.
The wall on the north side can of course also be extended and the wall on the east side can be removed or not.
Maybe someone has an idea of how to solve it best.

What is important to us:
Masonry shower with spiral or at least 1m*1.4m
Bathtub
Double washbasin with at least 2m distance to the back
Toilet (preferably somehow separated with a door to the hallway and to the bathroom)
Laundry chute must be accessible.
