The new kitchen would be more practical than the old version. The corner in the old version next to the tall cabinet is wasted workspace. What do you want to put there? In the new kitchen, she can access it easily and would have more workspace available. And the tall cabinets would still be reachable in one step.

The door that restricts the front shelf and base cabinet is disturbing.

In addition, a dishwasher is to be installed in a tall cabinet, but then there is no more countertop space next to it, and overall the kitchen feels divided and it divides the hallway.

Storage space for the clean dishes from the dishwasher? Do you need that? I don’t, I put everything away in the cupboards right away. Apart from that: If the built-in dishwasher is right next to the corner, you restrict yourself even more. When the door is open, your wife can’t reach the area next to the dishwasher nor the sink. Washing dishes by hand won’t be comfortable either if a tall cabinet is right next to it. I give you a tip: go to a kitchen studio and get advice and have a kitchen planned before you put up the walls inside.

Yes, maybe you are right. It was intended for the dirty / remaining dishes while the dishwasher is running. As a storage place between the sink and the dishwasher. But the thing with the open flap makes sense to me.

I don’t understand why you plan the fireplace directly at the dining nook. You can’t sit right in front of a stove; it’s extremely warm. Also, you often walk back and forth between the kitchen and the couch, so you constantly have to pass the glowing hot fireplace, which is impossible with children, way too dangerous. I also couldn’t imagine a bathroom without a toilet; many times my children used to jump out of the tub to quickly go to the toilet (of course soaking wet).

Best regards
Sabine

I don’t want to be a spoilsport: Maybe think about which hand or from which side you preferably load the dish rack? Right-handers prefer to stand to the left of the dish rack in order to load with the right hand. But it’s also possible, though unusual, from the right. Washing is done from right to left: dirty dishes on the right, handwashing, and the clean ones move to the left. A dish rack at working height is great: ideally, the dish rack is on the right (whether upper or lower), the sink is arranged on the left, and dirty dishes are collected in the middle. Always assuming we are talking about right-handers or retrained left-handers.
