I wouldn't do without a toilet on the ground floor. I don't know how your elementary school kids are, but mine don't like going to the toilet at school; as soon as they open the front door, they go straight to the toilet on the ground floor :D Our kitchen will also have a 3m custom-built wall unit, with 2 pantry cabinets planned, so no separate pantry is needed anymore. Maybe that helps you visualize?

Thank you for being someone who also follows my line :) That is exactly my opinion: 4 toilets in that semi-detached house are totally overkill, and having the shower in the basement is a real added value. And I'm also one of those: I prefer having three doors between me and others when the meeting goes longer. We have also already considered the sliding door. However, since the stairs are to be without risers (for light), the sound travels every way. I’m still unsure how much sound insulation I need and want. Currently, it is very noisy (plasterboard walls and simple doors) – we are currently planning with appropriate doors and different walls. Regarding the sound issue and two boys who will eventually be teenagers, I prefer to be safe and would plan a normal door.

Thanks for the pictures - I'll use them directly for the discussion tonight! We still don't really know the details of how the kitchen will turn out. That's so annoying about building a house: when you plan a kitchen separately, you spend 100 hours just on that planning. In house construction, everything has to happen simultaneously and you hardly have time for anything properly ;)

Exactly right. In the basement near the garden entrance, and right at the foot of the inner basement stairs also easily accessible from the ground floor, however maybe with an "Occupied" light on the ground floor, so that you know you have to go upstairs after all.

Great idea! Currently, I have something like that for the garage (warning on the phone - because it is often left open and then remains open overnight). I need this here too! Including the overtime warning ;)

Again: I would not do without the WC on the ground floor! Do you really want to go to the basement first to wash your hands after coming home? Currently, your house entrance is downstairs. But then on the ground floor, right? As I said, the friends who have it like that with us regret it.
