But with your approach you are in the minority. Better to skip the toilet in the basement and just install the shower. Guests don't live in the basement anyway, they stay on the ground floor – and there everyone wants to use the toilet there, not upstairs and not downstairs.

Somehow it feels to me like at our supermarket parking lot, where people stop right at the front by the disabled parking spaces in the driving lane, just to avoid walking an extra meter.
If the bathroom is in the basement, it’s just in the basement, so what?
What’s supposed to mean ‘everyone wants to go to the bathroom on the ground floor’? If there isn’t one, I want to see that.
By the way, you can also wash your hands at the kitchen sink.

We are currently celebrating a bit the discussion about the [EG Toilette] :D The arguments are quite similar to ours. We had also considered whether to buy 2 sqm from the neighbor and make a breakthrough ;) Dixie on the terrace was also an idea. Or the urinal next to the TV. Maybe you can also combine the pantry and the toilet. Then you can have a snack right away.

If there isn't one, it will be difficult. But I don't want the whole crowd at parties, children's birthdays, friendly gatherings, etc. to always be upstairs in the kids' bathroom. And as a guest, I also don't want to always have to run down to the basement first. The kitchen is on the ground floor too, not upstairs (even though a few very crazy people do it that way). Rooms belong where I need them.

Guests ask "where is the toilet at your place?" instead of simply looking upstairs. The answer "at the foot of the stairs" is no more complicated than "next to the front door" and from the living-dining area not a jot further than at the spot preferred here by the majority. The youngsters are taught that the way to the garden goes through the basement, so you don't have the dirty shoe problem in the living room. For that you only need

a closure monitoring also for the basement side door (and a lockable terrace door handle, at least until the rule to go through the basement is learned).
