: Would you like to explain to me what you find so impractical about that?

Our two 45 degree walls each with a door in them are one of the highlights in the hallway of our attic, even though they cost each children's room almost 0.75 sqm of living space.

Best regards,

Dirk

They (slanted walls) are, to my knowledge, only impractical in their placement—whether masonry or drywall. Slanted walls are usually planned in order to incorporate 2 doors into the design. Thus, they can be a sign of a flawed design, since the rest is insufficient to accommodate 2 doors in one area. Consequently, these slanted walls with their doors have a bad reputation.

Sure, I’d like to explain it too. You already mention one point yourself: they take up space and you can’t put a cupboard against the adjacent walls either, because you would always bump into its corner when entering. For me, 45 degree walls are simply a makeshift solution. We currently have two of them ourselves and I just find them impractical. Looking nice doesn’t always mean practical.

When we complained about the 45 degree walls to a developer at the first planning meeting, he got rude and snapped, "I can’t do other walls," and asked us to leave. Hm. Our architect was then able to

Good morning and many thanks to everyone who has written many quite constructive contributions here! To sum it up: as long as you approach the (preliminary) planning with common sense, you can't go very wrong. Things like external sewage, bathrooms on the upper and ground floors stacked, walls aligned (structural), no unnecessary corners, door installation (65 cm), I have already considered at the appropriate points. Spatial thinking is not difficult for me, and I really enjoy the whole planning process! Since Saturday, the 3rd draft has already been created, which we now want to give to our architect. Of course, I am fully aware that despite careful considerations, mistakes can still occur in the sketch. It is only meant to be a collection of ideas.... As soon as I have something presentable, I will get back in touch! Thanks again to everyone! Regards Daniel

Better to write down everything that led to the planning and what is important to you. For example, kitchen in the east with a view of ..., parents' area separated from children's area, etc., and then give this along with the other considerations and documents to the architect. This does not hinder their creativity (if commissioned by you) and leads to better results.

A brief note on slanted walls: In my house, I have some above the children's rooms for the doors, and overall I gain space; without them, the hallway would have to be much larger to allow access to all rooms. Cabinets still fit in the rooms, the slanted side is basically only door size.
