I would place the kitchen on the left side of the plan with a freestanding island in front; then the dining table in the center of the room. You can keep the fireplace where it is - OR you can move it, for example, to the bottom right corner of the plan with an external chimney, for instance. You can also place it somewhere on the right side of the plan on the wall - either with an external chimney or an internal chimney.

I think a room on the living level is good; if a child ever has a broken leg or otherwise temporarily has difficulty going upstairs, one can also sleep on the living level for a time. As a rule, I would use the room as a library / quiet living room or something like that.

I don’t find an outdoor fireplace on the terrace ideal. It would have to be sideways. But then we have the problem that the roof ridge runs from north to south and the chimney must end 1m above the highest point. So we would have a very long chimney on the house side. That doesn’t look so good.

Your alternative floor plan would be exactly my style, but it has to work for you. I would also be fine with the short distance between the kitchen, cellar, entrance, [Dispensa].

I don't like having the kitchen in the stairwell because of the cooking smells; the food aroma then rises and lingers in the hallway. The stairwell inevitably creates a certain cross draft/chimney effect upwards.

Which range hood have you set your sights on? There are really great ones nowadays, but they still don’t catch everything 100%; or rather, there’s still a smell from the [BO].
