Now I understand it. The north-facing children's room will not be particularly bright. As you say, moving the "rooms not so reliant on daylight" would also change the reflection of the stairs/hallway downstairs. I think we are already too far along for that, and we don't want to arrange access to the utility room through the kitchen because then we would lose cabinet space. Without a basement and with a pantry replacement not too generous because of the heat recovery ventilation unit, we need the cabinet space in the kitchen.

But I believe at the current stage we will not change such fundamental things and will bite the bullet with the dark children's room.

The furniture in the living room is currently arranged as indicated in the rental apartment. It’s unusual but has proven itself with us for a decade, especially the separation of the work PC and the private PC, which is often used in the evenings while the partner watches TV. This way at least you are in the same room when I do private video editing, photo editing, vacation planning, or research like Aktuell Bau. I would therefore be reluctant to put windows with a lower sill in the southwest corner. We spend most of our time in the living room from the afternoon onwards. So it’s not so important that the full sun shines in already at noon. We currently have a similar orientation in the rental apartment, and on the left living room wall there isn’t even a window because it’s a partition wall. And we find it bright enough.

The house is not built yet

And, south-facing windows are also meant to make use of the warmth of the sun. Maybe not so desirable on days like today, but on autumn/winter days one appreciates it.

I think the access to the patio doors becomes unnecessarily narrow with the living room furnishings:

You have to weave around the kitchen peninsula, dining table, and between the sofa/dining table.

Hello,

a passage width of one meter is certainly sufficient – I only have concerns regarding the aesthetics – the wall to the utility room and the hallway is probably going to be fitted with floor-to-ceiling cabinets, right?

That could look quite bulky and make the passage appear narrow with "only" one meter of passage width.

Also, 120 cm "maneuvering width" between the stove and the opposite kitchen wall is definitely sufficient – however, if someone is standing at the stove and a second person wants to get to the fridge (door width 60 cm that then additionally sticks out into the room), it looks quite different again – personally, I would prefer 140 - 150 cm if possible.

If the cooktop doesn’t necessarily "have to be" where it is currently drawn, I would also think about that again. For example, when frying, it can be assumed with this configuration that a large part of the counter will be "contaminated" with grease splatters. If you are planning an exhaust/recirculation hood, it will also hang right in the visual axis of the kitchen/dining area and, for two of the three users of the counter, immediately in front of the head.

Regards,

Dirk

I would also mirror the upper floor. I have a few new points as well: What is the purpose of this wall stub between the kitchen and the living room? You seem to need a part of it to get enough space for your kitchen cabinets. But I would definitely not let it extend that far into the room. You will regret having to always walk around it later. Are you getting an outdoor water tap? Otherwise, I would place the sink (and maybe the washing machine) in the utility room on the exterior wall next to the window. That way, you can at least put a water hose out the window if necessary without blocking the walkway. Are you not getting a dryer (or at least a socket intended for one)?

And, properly furnish the dining area .. I just loaded it into the graphic program to scale. The drawn dining table has a size of exactly 70x120 cm. That actually doesn't work at all.

And then, why have a separate PC desk? People are more likely to be using a laptop on the go there, right? There are stands that can be rolled to the sofa, or in times of Wi-Fi, people tend to sit at the dining table, which can be much larger for that purpose.

There will be no bar stools at the kitchen island. The architect somehow drew them in. And in "reality," the dining table will therefore also move further to the right. And yes, kbt09, it is also larger. In SweetHome3D I have it with the correct measurements and also in a different position. That is just the architect's interpretation. Some things they copy 1:1 from the client (like the living room), other things they draw at their discretion (like the dining room). We also (still) don't have a display cabinet. The left terrace door will therefore be completely free. The right one will rarely be opened. The kitchen planning is not yet finished but no, the wall to the utility room is not supposed to be equipped with tall cabinets but will still provide workspace through upper/lower cabinets. Sure, the whole thing looks a bit bulky but no, the entire utility room wall will not have floor-to-ceiling cabinets. Attached is a picture of how we can imagine the kitchen, but as said, this is not finished yet, e.g. the kitchen island should be deeper (because of grease splashes) or it is not clear at all whether the cooktop will be on the peninsula at all. Thanks for the hint about the extractor hood in the line of sight - we had not considered that so far. One more reason not to put the stove on the kitchen island but to use it only as a workspace. Many things would be better if the stove were on the utility room wall, but then we would lose some upper cabinets. But as said... nothing decided yet. This will be decided in the next 2-3 months before the sample selection. By the way, this short wall between kitchen and living room will be changed during the sample selection so that it fits with the kitchen planning. On this wall there will be 3 wall-high cabinets each 60cm plus the corner 60cm plus space for sockets/light switches. So 240cm plus light switch = approx. 260-270cm. We can shorten or extend this wall after the building application during the sample selection. Why an extra PC desk in the living room? That is pointless to discuss because it relates to lifestyle. It is definitely not a laptop but a desktop with 24" monitor. I don’t like laptops, especially ergonomically. I need a proper keyboard, mouse, and a large monitor. And I cannot imagine editing photos or video and doing longer research on a laptop on the sofa. And then there is also the strict separation from the study where the work laptop with external monitors is located and that I do not want to spend the evenings in the study. But I have often discussed this elsewhere and the result was often: others don’t understand it but we want it that way. It has proven itself for 8 years. And if it ever is no longer like that, then the living room layout is not badly planned. The couch can just move further into the corner and everything is simply a bit more spacious. Jochen, we will have an outdoor water tap. Definitely one behind the house. Possibly also one in front of the house. A dryer outlet is included. We currently don’t have a dryer. Because of the small utility room we currently plan to stack the dryer on top of the washing machine. The question is if you put everything on the utility room outer wall... then where will the house connections go?
