Thank you for the discussion. Yes, sometimes you just need to be shaken awake because you still have your own thought processes from the past weeks/months in your head.

As for the cardinal directions, I have to add that the first drafts were designed with a different orientation (terrace strictly south) and only in the last one was the specific plot taken into account. My thought process was that the children also sleep in their rooms, where west is better than south because of the heat.

I fully agree with you on the stairs; I need to look up the shell construction heights again. With a rise of 19 cm, I would at least reach your dimensions with a step measure of 65 cm. That goes on the homework list.

Regarding your other questions:

There was never a need for a "real" guest room, and I find it difficult to build a room (or reserve space in another room) that is unused 350 days a year. Guests have been sleeping on a very large sofa bed in the living room or a mobile bed in a children's room for 10 years. At my parents’ place, we clear our bedroom. So far, neither we nor our guests have had a problem with this. The office itself is fully utilized in the planned size, so more space would have to be made available. By the time "our" house is ready to move in, the eldest daughter will certainly be 14; by then 18 is almost within reach, and this room will still have a meaningful use. Maybe you could explain your thoughts to me further. I currently don’t see where advantages arise in the result if the work area is enlarged.

A complete workshop is set up in the basement with a machine park like a large saw, milling machine, floor drill, and a future lathe. I “need” them for my hobby, astronomy, and I also like to tinker in the garden. As you can see in the old drafts, the room behind the garage was intended as a replacement for the basement (solely for cost reasons). But new problems arose with that. Devices and non-frost-resistant accessories outside the thermal envelope, kitchen would have to be bigger, no pre-chilled drinks, garden furniture is probably not stored in the attic... The basement really hits the budget hard, but we have found no viable alternative.

My thoughts over the weeks, no defense

The somewhat larger study area with the now planned but actually unnecessary utility room space (can be moved to the upper floor) can then also serve to provide a sleeping place if someone is bedridden sick or physically limited (broken leg, etc.). It does not necessarily have to fully combine the study (11 sqm) and the utility room (6 sqm), but in addition to using it as a study, the sofa bed should fit into the room.

If the workshop is used in this way, then the basement considerations are, of course, correct.

For a workshop, a cellar is probably necessary, but then please with an outside staircase. For everything else, a few more square meters on the ground and upper floor would be sufficient.

I find it stupid for a teenager's room to be used as a guest room. For the guest and for the teenager. If there are tax or data protection reasons for not having a fold-out bed in the office: there are cabinets with locks, and even a workaholic can crash for a while – so you should consider simply planning the office 4 sqm larger. I know myself that after foot surgeries or other things, one likes to stay on the ground floor for a night rather than struggling upstairs.

But otherwise, I advise writing down a room program as well as must-haves and no-gos: just think about why you need a direct door to the garage, whether through a narrow hallway or utility room... simply mentally run through it with muddy boots and groceries, possibly a stroller. Regarding the floor plan: the staircase is the first thing to be placed. It is important for statics and is the connecting link between two living floors. You use it several times a day and it should get appropriate space.

Regarding the facade appearance: the middle part should look narrower than the sides. is right about that. It’s about pleasant optics and not personal liking. Here the middle part visually pulls the house upwards and appears somewhat “arrogant.”

Mobile greetings from on the go

Thank you for your feedback. I will review it carefully, but I definitely won’t get to it in the next few days. There is a room plan, which was also the basis for the last draft and my statement "almost all wishes could be taken into account."

Nevertheless, I will take another shot at designing a new floor plan starting with the staircase and, in another version, leave out the exterior walls and only add them at the end.

Maybe someone can say something about the furnishing of the kitchen and bathroom, as I lack the imagination for that and kitchen/bathroom planners from the internet haven’t really helped me.
