One should not ignore that it is a position in the public sector - the public sector cannot guarantee a permanent position, even with very good performance. And honestly: if it is a sought-after profession, then one does not take a fixed-term contract. One takes it if there is nothing else available in the job market. Note, for those who ignore it here: the bank simply does not want customers who cannot meet the installment payments. If the salary stops after the end of the employment period, it can become very uncomfortable for the borrowers. In their own interest, borrowers should examine themselves on this!

I don't quite see it that way; on the one hand, there are only fixed-term contracts in certain professions, and on the other hand, one cannot or should not generally conclude from that that one will inevitably be unemployed.

I do think that the OP or the family can assess the risk and have done so and accordingly committed to the plan.

A risk does not necessarily have to result from that; it also depends on the individual perspective, and I think the OP can assess that better than we can.

Someone who has been employed for years can also face unemployment; what matters is always how in demand I am, how in demand my job is, and how quickly I can get new work.

Well, there are indeed many fixed-term positions in sought-after professions... also in the public service... just ask teachers. In many federal states, you already need enormous luck not to get only annual contracts for years at first.

What other people's experiences are here really won't give you any insight in this case. Submit the contract and see what comes of it. In an emergency, there are still other banks you can contact – that shouldn't be a problem, right? A fixed-term contract apparently isn't an obstacle anymore. By the way, my husband was on probation. But no one asked about that afterwards, nor about the contract (although it was permanent, they didn't know that either). For us, for example, they only asked since when one has been employed where, and we answered that truthfully; that was ING.

Good luck!

I'm not talking about unwanted or uninteresting professions or positions.
But if someone has the choice between permanent and temporary, as a father, he will probably choose the permanent position.
If someone can only show a temporary position, you can assume that there are currently no permanent ones. At least, they are rare. This thought could pose a problem for the bank. This salary is a shaky candidate.

But the evaluation is always up to the bank, not us.
