I still don’t understand what gas heating systems are supposed to have to do with storage systems... But the statement about that is simply wrong. Gas heating systems pose very specific dangers. There is permanent combustion, which generates heat and exhaust gases. Both represent a concrete danger to humans if not handled properly. In electrical storage systems chemical processes take place that do not pose a danger.

Except for the gas line in the house or in the gas heating system. It hardly gets more specific and "special" than that. Even the smallest leak can turn your house into a smoking crater in the blink of an eye.

Here in the settlement (development with gas about 40 years ago), I can currently see the house directly, there was actually a gas line break in the basement years ago. It was so severe that the entire settlement really smelled strongly of gas. So we called the fire department, my brother was also there at the time, they showed up - and what did the commander (!) do as the first official act? Ring the doorbell! The house was still standing, the rest of the settlement too, but the commander lost a 100l barrel at the next summer festival.

That it just barely went well in this case does not mean that it would be safe.

Oh, now something is being made up again to discredit the evil gas heating system ;) Thanks to [Odorierung], natural gas is quite easy to detect. Heat pumps have also caught fire due to technical defects. With gas accidents, you notice it right away because it gets coverage in the media. A house that exploded appears on [RTL Aktuell], the fire caused by the heat pump might be in the local newspaper. And if it's not the storage unit, then it's the inverter. It can catch fire too.

There are even reports of houses burning down because of a faulty toaster. The discussion leads to nothing. I’ll just state: There are no special regulations on how to install the battery storage. For me, that means it goes wherever there is space and it makes sense. It should be obvious not to run a cable across the room. And installing it in the unheated extension doesn’t seem very sensible either.

Again: If there were an increased fire hazard, the insurance companies would have already reacted. But they haven't. There are smart people working there who do nothing all day but assess risks.
