If you are not a pathologist or a very theoretical scientist, ask the [KV-Emergency Officer]. The [KV] services are now quite well paid and you stay within general medical knowledge ;-) . Your region will be grateful to you. This will probably benefit you someday when looking for a house or building plot because you are much better connected. Most houses change hands through networks, not through the official route :-)

I also find this an absolutely compelling argument against renting and in favor of ownership. It’s not just the garden, but also the fact that you can keep annoying neighbors at a certain minimum distance and do whatever you want inside the house. No more discussions about drill holes or different tiles, no inferior fittings, no inspection visits by the landlord... all of this cannot be compensated with money. We moved into our own house a little over 2 years ago, after 35 years of renting for me, and I still can’t believe the huge difference myself. Besides, I also believe that it is financially worthwhile. When renting, you don’t have a paid-off house in retirement age. And no, in our case the monthly expenses for the house are not higher than for the rented dump, but the same.

That’s all true. But if you simply don’t have enough money to buy a house, then that is not a compelling argument. Because what good is the beautiful garden if your house ends up in a forced auction in five years because you can no longer pay the loan installments?

Are you sure you’re not comparing apples and oranges? Because in almost all cases it is not true that the expenses are the same. At least not if you set the same parameters, i.e. the same city district or city/town and accordingly the same conditions. Of course, if you compare, for example, an apartment in downtown Munich with a single-family house in a village in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania or somewhere else, then it’s logical that the costs aren’t higher.

Hello passivhaus,
I am also a doctor and in my mid-30s. A new building was also too expensive for us, so we bought a nearly new existing property. Which area do you live in? If [Saarland], then there should be something affordable, right?
Best regards

I would save up a bit more equity, for example through [KV-Notdienste] (40 euros/hour), you should have at least 60k...

Hello, I saw a nice used one, but unfortunately energy efficiency class H. That means we’ll pay a fortune for heating oil or energetic refurbishment... We also don’t want to leave the place/district because we are very satisfied with the elementary school here and want to continue sending our children there. Someone among you mentioned that Riester can also be used for building. That would be great because then we would 1. suddenly have €6600 more equity available and 2. could then invest our Riester contribution (€660 per year) as well as the government subsidy (€1093 per year), in total €1753 per year, additionally into the house.
