When I was at my savings bank to inquire about financing, I was asked whether we were building solid or timber construction, as this influences the decision. I don't know if only this one bank considers that or if others do as well. Maybe it's something local because the branch manager had bad experiences with timber frame construction? I don't know. I was just told there that timber frame construction is expected to have worse value retention than solid construction.

Regarding the lifelong right of residence, my parents do that in the house where they currently live. And that is what my sister will get :).

And above all, we would look for a house in the village; the city is unaffordable for us or for us, or you get something that is falling apart, but the city is not really our thing anyway, so it's fine like that :D. And we also want a solid house made of wood, I can't really get along with that, and there are very few of those in our area as far as I have seen :)

Aha, ok, thanks for the info.

Then you also got a banker there who doesn’t differentiate.

Our advisors (I also work at a bank) were specially trained to assess the values of houses built with timber frame construction and solid construction. There is also the difference between a Lada and a Porsche here...

That’s logical anyway, for example you can’t compare the "entry-level class" (prefabricated house from the top edge of the basement ceiling for EUR 99,999.99) with the products of providers who nowadays generally even price above the solid house providers...

But it’s the same with solid houses – in our town, a "company" just completed a townhouse project that I wouldn’t wish my worst enemy to live in...

I found the following statement by the speaker in the above-mentioned training very interesting: "Please think about the oldest houses you know – I bet you are now thinking of the original form of the timber frame house – only back then it was called a half-timbered house."

Dirk

Cool, the original form and so on. Interesting perspective. However, I also wouldn’t want to live in a half-timbered house... It just doesn’t have that cave feeling *g*
