Have you ever tested such hoods in the cabinet? I find that they restrict the view of the cooking area quite a bit, especially when extended.

If you reach into your pocket, there are also fan units for the upper cabinets that no longer require an extended hood. Then you just push strongly boiling noodles to the back; one directly above is also better. But probably comparable to [Kopffreihauben].

No, unfortunately we were never able to test them and have already thought about whether it might be disturbing. Currently, we have one, I don't know what it's called, not slanted and where you can put oil or something on top, and that doesn't bother us at all. However, it does hang a bit higher than the cabinet will in the future..

Right, that was also one of the reasons why I decided against it. The built-in hoods are very deep, a suspended one is installed considerably higher. Especially if you cook a lot, ergonomics should come before appearance, so take another look at it live in the kitchen studio.

I have also already looked at the fan modules, but to be honest, I don't quite understand where exactly the difference lies. I have attached a picture. So currently we have planned with a hood like in the top row and I saw the advantage that you still have a bit of storage space behind the door for the most commonly used cooking spices. Because in terms of depth, these modules are just as deep as a cabinet, right?

You know, I’m not a pro either. So this is hearsay from our kitchen planner, who in my opinion knows his stuff: the fan units leave some space in the upper cabinet, sometimes none at all, so you don’t gain anything. But your hoods would probably need to be pulled forward rather, and/or are not integrated so strongly visually.

It probably just depends on how important function is to you (do I cook broth for 24 hours once a week?), appearance (is it not allowed to be visible at all?), and price.

At the end of the day, a proper, deep and wide extractor hood is probably still the best. But it’s neither head-clearance-friendly nor visually integrated.
