In your case, you could already send a site plan and basic ideas along, but then call immediately and reference the email.

An employee of a general contractor once told me that they much prefer calls over emails.
For investments in the six-figure range, you can certainly pick up the phone, and in this way you can get a first impression of each other over the phone.

However, you always have to be proactive afterwards and call again, because everyone is overloaded.
