Interjection from me: No child has ever died in a shared double room, not even in their teenage years. You can see it by all the mentally disturbed people from the generation where that was still standard. Quarrelsome bunch that only looks out for themselves and doesn't like to get along with other people... hmm, no, wait, somehow not.

Of course, here in the house building forum, (prospective) families mostly build so that the dear little ones can have their own spaces and a nice garden. The benefits of having separate rooms and the drawbacks of shared rooms are often greatly exaggerated.

As a person, you can also develop the ability to make the best out of suboptimal conditions through compromise. That can sometimes be helpful later in life. And I can sing a song about the generation of self-centered individuals who always had their own rooms!

(no, you don't automatically become like that just because you have your own room. That was an exaggeration.)

Simply leaving everything as it is is, of course, also an option. If any renovation should take place at all, then in 3-4-5 years...I actually just want to gather input for now so that I can weigh options later.

1. leave everything as it is
2. renovation with high cost / benefit?
3. move to a bigger house
4. ???

I have to agree with that... I only got my own room when I was about 17. Before that, I always shared with one of my sisters, which rarely bothered me. Sure, there were occasional conflicts, but that was really the exception. How far apart are your daughters?

Since you like the area, the infrastructure obviously fits, the neighborhood is harmonious, etc., option 3, the move, would simply not be an option for me.

My statement was clearly in favor of 1. What is the age range of your children?

I do not consider what you gain through the extension remotely proportional to the price. My personal opinion.

Couldn't the wall between the bedroom and the dressing room be removed so that an L-shaped room is created, which can then somehow be divided? Or at least so that the children's beds stand separately. So that two children live in this room, but each has their own area. The parents would then have to move to another room.
