Evaporation ponds on property - How to construct? What to consider?

Hello,

we are considering purchasing a plot of land where the development plan requires the construction of an evaporation basin (with overflow into the parcel ditch next to the property). For every 100 m2 of sealed surface, at least 19 m2 of evaporation basin must be provided.

Our internet search did not really help us gain an idea of how to create an evaporation basin on private property and what needs to be considered.

We have sent an inquiry to the building authority regarding questions about the depth, allowed materials, and the exact size (do you not have to build a basin under 100 m2 of sealed surface, maybe 38 m2 at 101 m2, or is it calculated proportionally). However, maybe someone here can help us get a better idea of how to create an evaporation basin.

Thank you very much for any response and help!

Best regards, Kerstin

There will be no salting. One pool with 19m² per started 100m². How big is your property? A 6.3x6.3m pond is something you have to really want...

Evaporation is the first time I've heard of it. Are you sure it's not about infiltration? If it really is evaporation, I would design it as a constructed wetland. Ideally, you already have clay soil and only need to compact it properly. Then add some gravel substrate and wetland plants on top.

Thank you very much for your answers! Yes, it is actually about evaporation basins, not infiltration. The planned house will not be huge, but it will definitely have 100 m2 of sealed surface. We absolutely do not want a large pond! The property is 900 m2, the space would be there, but so are the ideas on how one would like to use it... Our idea was to place the basin on one side of the front yard (5 meters distance between street and house) and hide it with nice planting. But that only works if the size is proportionally determined...

Almost forgot, the soil survey has not yet been completed but we expect sandy soil. Is it possible to create a swamp bed with pond liner? Wouldn't that then be an ideal breeding ground for mosquitoes?

The house is about 10x10m, plus a garden shed, garage/carport, possibly a terrace roof. Even without the paved areas, you're more likely looking at 200sqm rather than 100. I really don't understand what this is supposed to bring in terms of evaporation. Except for a lot of mosquitoes. Does the justification of the development plan say anything about this? Basically, you can also work with pond liner on sandy soil. For the swamp bed, the sealing can also be perforated, the plants should stand in the muck for a while but can also dry out occasionally
