Hi Bortel, what does something like this look like at 4.5m? Is the grid extendable or is it a version that you slide back and forth.. Manufacturers like Brömse now install fly screens for their lift-and-slide doors as standard, unfortunately our supplier uses a different manufacturer. I also understand that something like this is expensive. But I just want to be able to ventilate in the summer without having the place full of bugs.

I would save myself that. We have integrated pull-down screens on all normal windows / patio doors, and they are already back up for the winter. Then we had a clamp frame retrofitted in the downstairs bathroom (where there is no roller shutter), as well as in my room, where there is a venetian blind in front, but the area is probably too large for a roller shutter due to the wind load. In the living room we have 2 double doors without a mullion, so ultimately 4 single doors, and we have now had a clamp frame installed on one of them as well. For ventilation. But we have no other window in the living room – otherwise we would have taken that. So JUST for ventilation I would really save the money – don’t you have ventilation? I would only do that if I like sitting inside with the door open. Our screen door guy said these folding slat doors are the worst, they are super expensive and break very quickly.

Well, in practice you also want to go in and out occasionally. Especially with children, such a door will simply be left open in the summer. No expensive, pre-installed solution helps here; only more or less useful retrofit solutions do. By the way, the snap frame for the windows can be retrofitted very easily and cheaply and also replaced, I would never spend a lot of money on manufacturer solutions for that. Quite ingenious those things.

We had it retrofitted by an external person.. I wouldn't say it was cheap, it was around €400 for one small one, about 80x100, and a patio door... but prices can always go higher. We could have also chosen aluminum mesh, which doesn't look as dark - but that would have been significantly more expensive. Besides, they always do it smartly in the "showroom" - when you hold all kinds of grids side by side, you naturally notice much more that the aluminum is lighter. But if you just have the standard at home without comparison, you don't really notice it anymore.

Well, you can get the frames for practically nothing at the discount store. Aluminum frames with fiberglass mesh. Fits perfectly, looks good. There are just things where you can save yourself the professional (and a lot of money).

We have planned the discount store solution for the upper floor. We originally wanted to install integrated ones there as well until I came across a post in this forum mentioning that they can only be cleaned poorly from the outside. And when the rapeseed is blooming, that could be counterproductive..
But downstairs I would prefer integrated ones because I don't want to have them permanently in front of the window or door but only pull them out as needed.

Maybe I'm just overthinking it and in the end I don't really care, I (still) don't know..
