You said it - the many small tasks really steal your time.
The only rooms that were neither wallpapered nor plastered are the utility room and the storage room.

I just saw something from a colleague that shocked me.
She moved into her new terraced house about 1.5 years ago. It is built solidly, and the construction company has a good reputation. They definitely don’t belong to the cheap providers (especially since the house was built in a European neighboring country at a price I could never have afforded).

Now - after 1.5 years - such massive settlement cracks have appeared that wallpaper had to be removed and replastered in most parts of the house. The cracks were clearly visible THROUGH the (uncracked) wallpaper. She showed me a picture of a wall (after the wallpaper was removed) where the joint of every single brick was cracked.
The construction company is currently redoing everything under warranty (including the subcontracted painter) - but living again on the construction site after only 1.5 years.
We’ll see - maybe I can get the picture from her somehow - then I’ll post it here later.

I just hope this doesn’t happen to us as well. So far - after almost three-quarters of a year - nothing else has caught my attention.

We have only wallpapered the entire living room and the ceiling of the ground floor hallway with fleece; everything else we only painted. After 10 months, you can clearly see in the living room on the fleece through the formation of folds that the ceiling and walls were worked on differently. This is less noticeable in other rooms. In the rooms upstairs, we have small cracks either to the left or right of the window opening, extending downwards or upwards. Since they are relatively narrow, they probably would not be noticeable with fleece or only upon very close inspection. Everything has its advantages and disadvantages.

We simply lacked time and experience. We wanted to move in within a limited time, and every month of double costs was €1,500. So the idea of hiring a master craftsman who would come with a team was very tempting. We then imagined doing the finishing and painting of the attic ourselves -> the result is not great. That’s why we will probably hire professionals again for the second revision. The company of three already took three weeks – we would have never managed that.

I painted my room for the first time when I was 14 and can't imagine handing over such work for money to professionals. I also don't have the claim to completely renovate the house before moving in. But everyone has to decide for themselves how they do it, not everyone likes living on a construction site for years. I almost don't care how it looks, as long as it's mine!

Hello, the rooms can definitely still be painted by yourself, but I would not want to paint the staircase. Without scaffolding, that is pretty difficult.

Here is a picture to go with it.
The wallpaper has already been removed. Before wallpapering (and before the cracks appeared) the wall was smoothly plastered.
The company (main contractor) has repaired all affected walls and ceilings under the warranty.
