Yes, you are right. We have now hired someone. We honestly really do not have the time left to do it ourselves. Our "free time" is practically completely taken up by the house anyway.

Just talked with "Yes, and we were all amateurs, would do it the same way again."

However, I have to qualify that we partially worked inside with sanding plaster (bathrooms over the tiles, stairwell, hallway, corridor) and these jobs were done by a professional (my brother-in-law) with amateur support (my sister).

At times, there were 4 of us doing the wallpapering and painting work, of which two people (my mother and my wife) did not always help (looking after children; cooking; no jobs they could do).
My father worked for a total of 5 weeks, I 3 weeks (vacation) + evenings and weekends, my mother partially 3 weeks and my wife partially the 5 weeks. Father and I were usually on site from 08:00 - 18:00/19:00 (after that there was no proper light anymore).

Afterwards, we were completely exhausted and done. My father (almost 75) doesn’t take it easy and at the end looked like he was going to collapse from the chair.
We were able to get material cheaper through a staff discount. In terms of price, we were at 1,000 - 1,200 + BG payment.

We would do it again, but:
1. We would NEVER have expected it to take so long. I had estimated max. 3 weeks.
2. Without the enormous commitment of the family, we would have completely failed.
3. We made small mistakes that a professional would not have made. For example, when wallpapering the door inner frame of our sliding door. Currently, our little Pipel-Fritzen enjoy playing with it and pull small pieces of wallpaper off. First spot for rework.
4. Our living room (especially the ceiling) still looks sh... despite double coating with the best Alpina paint. Second spot for rework.

If you do it yourself, you also have the feeling: WE have built something in the house OURSELVES.
If you do it yourself: Don’t overestimate yourselves. If you run short on time towards the end (only little time until moving in), hire professionals. As already mentioned – we never thought the whole thing would drag on that long.

It went similarly for you time-wise as for us.

156m²

Yeah, and then floor coverings were added. And I spent the rest of the year doing outdoor work. Plot fencing, paving work, building a carport with storage room, building a wooden terrace, leveling the plot, installing an irrigation system, laying electrical wiring in the carport and garden, sowing lawn, creating beds, planting hedges, etc. etc. It was an intense year...

Here we had a professional in our circle of acquaintances who did it for a Hand.... Actually, we wanted to do this ourselves within the originally planned 3 weeks. Lucky we didn’t do it.

Hm - let’s have a company do it. When I think of the 1.50 m L-shaped stones for securing the property, I always remember the old joke: "And what am I supposed to carry in the left hand?" We don’t want to do the paving ourselves - the terrace should look nice after all . Laying the irrigation system - if they’re working anyway, they can also dig the trench for the line. There won’t be a carport this year yet - but we already had a lamp and outdoor socket installed at the house during construction. If planning is feasible, we want to make the carport roof transparent (light-transmitting). Garden - well, right now we’re struggling through our weed jungle. It should be gone when the outdoor work (L-shaped stones, terrace) is finished - if only it would finally start. Then we’ll use a tiller again and afterwards sow lawn (OK - maybe only in September so the young shoots don’t burn right away). The bed is already created. Then we still need a fence so the kids don’t fall off as well as the hedge, which should hide (camouflage) the fence. But the garden is completely our area. It would be even better with a trained landscape gardener in the house .

It would have been the same for us and was an important reason to have the company do it right away.

I wallpapered and painted the walls and ceilings for about 160 sqm of living space, it took about 4 weeks, BUT I had no vacation, so only weekends and some days after work. I had help from my father for one day each weekend. However, I didn't have to fill or sand anything. The garden kept me busy a lot and still does. In the last few weeks, I concreted the posts for play towers for the little ones and hauled 1400kg of concrete for that (digging the holes was also a lot of fun in 36 degrees).
