You mean it should rather be next to the house? So that I don't constantly see it from the front yard?

I have also read something like that before. I have not been there for a long time and do not know exactly how it is with the neighbors, but according to aerial images, it looks like the immediate neighbor has built his carport significantly closer to the street than the house...see attachment.

No, I mean: give the car a nice parking space in front of the house and without a roof. The car itself is fine there, and for the second set of tires, etc., you have the shed.

Which paragraph do you mean? Can you give any hints where to find the comments? To my knowledge, the same rules apply to §34 of the Building Code as in the planned area according to §30 of the Building Code. Unless the development plan expressly prohibits it, parking spaces and garages are also permitted outside the buildable area. The "factual building boundary" therefore only limits the buildings and structural installations that must be within the building envelope in the development plan. If there are comments or court rulings to the contrary, I am very interested.

In the present individual case, I still believe the original poster would do themselves no favor by disfiguring the front garden with a roof for the car.

I do mean §34 of the Building Code.

The commentary I had read, I cannot find at the moment. But another one, which is not quite as explicit but still applies: BauBG_BauNVO_34_BauGB.pdf
A well-known search engine finds it quickly.

Then page 405, paragraph 75 (ee), last sentence. A judgment is also in the footnote. If you interpret it differently, please let me know.
