Desperate about the 153-degree hinge, how do I manage it?

Hello everyone,

we have a 220 cm Metod tall cabinet.
At the top there is a 60x80 cm door with a
125-degree hinge. Then an open shelf and
then a compartment with a 60x40 cm flap door.
At the very bottom I wanted to make a 60x80 cm door
with a 153-degree hinge and drawers behind it.

The top door fits perfectly. The cabinet is also
standing straight.

For the bottom door, I had to place the holes
for the hinge a few millimeters lower, because the flap hinge is 12mm thick, otherwise
they would have rubbed against each other.

I spent ages adjusting the 153-degree hinge on the 60x80 cm
door.
(Hinge on the right)
At first, the door was about 5 cm apart and couldn’t
be closed at all.
Now I’ve managed to get it so that the
door at least rests against the top of the cabinet. However,
I had to turn the bottom hinge out so far
that the door at least closed somewhat, but
the door now stands about 1 cm away from the horizontal
bottom edge of the cabinet.
So the door “slopes down”.
It naturally looks pretty bad.

How can I make it so that the door with the
153-degree hinge closes completely, but also rests properly
at the top and bottom?

What could I have done wrong?

Regards, Buchi

Hello,
it should fit just as easily as the 125° hinge.

For the lower door, did you drill new holes? Where? In the carcass, in the door?

Hello!

For the lower door, I drilled new holes in the corpus. (Old ones plugged with a wooden dowel and new ones drilled). I also tried with a 40x40cm door, each time hanging only one of the 153-degree hinges, trying separately the upper and the lower hinge. The small door can then easily be closed leaning against the horizontal edge of the corpus.

I suspect the holes are not drilled exactly. Are the mounting plates exactly 700 mm apart? Are they perpendicular to the surface and the edge?

I made myself a drilling template out of aluminum with 2x 5mm holes, for still existing original holes and then with 2 1.6mm holes 54mm deeper (to come 4mm deeper than the original holes).

Then I inserted 2 of the intermediate shelf pins into the 5mm holes for fixing, stitched through the 1.6mm holes, and then drilled the 5mm holes with a wood drill.

It should be accurate to about a millimeter then. In any case, I didn’t miss by a few millimeters.

But of course it was drilled freehand in the standing cabinet.

What is the maximum inaccuracy allowed? There are still quite a few adjustment options on the hinge, right?

What is the most sensitive dimension here? That the 700mm distance has to be exact?

The mounting plates can be adjusted up and down. Certainly, any kind of torsion is bad, so if the holes are not exactly perpendicular to the surface or the two holes are not exactly on an orthogonal to the edge. Is the door straight?
