Exactly: many old pieces of furniture have a lot of potential. And "colorful" or matte black often fits very well with simple white Ikea furniture.

Dressers can sometimes also be found cheaply at Roller, Otto, or Möbel24. But then they usually look cheap as well.

There are instructions on the internet, e.g. at [selbst]. Hardware stores cut wood to size. Nevertheless, it requires more craftsmanship than assembling Ikea furniture. A CAD drawing is only necessary for mass production.

Since moving in, we have had some furniture custom-made by the carpenter: bed, dining table, wardrobe, large sideboard, built-in shelves, etc. In my experience, the quality is better and the price is cheaper than at the furniture store. However, you first have to be clear about the design yourself. For example, we wanted all the furniture made of solid oak and knot-free. The dining table with a central leg and an 8 cm thick top costs 5,000 euros online, half that at the carpenter.
