Hello everyone,

we are currently building a duplex and need to decide on flooring soon. We have an open living/kitchen/dining area and originally wanted to lay a uniform floor. We had almost decided on tiles throughout the entire ground floor, but are now considering laying parquet instead, as we also find wooden floors visually very appealing and tiles could possibly feel cold. However, everyone around us advises against laying parquet in the kitchen area, so we are now thinking about how to combine both types of flooring.
Attached you will find our floor plan and there are different possibilities. We would definitely lay tiles in the hallway as well.
How would you do it? Tiles only in the kitchen area? If yes, how to separate them (like laying a square or diagonally finishing between the end of the kitchen and the corner wall to the hallway)? Or also lay the tiles directly in the hallway area?
Our kitchen has a very light, slightly creamy front and a black granite countertop. Would you choose light or dark tiles? (By the way, wood-look tiles are not an option for us.)

I am really looking forward to your advice!

Best regards,
Jane

So our dining table is an oak table (medium light), with cream-colored chairs. Our sofa is dark brown and the living room table is made of glass and dark wood. We don't have many more "large" pieces of furniture, just a few (white) shelves...

Then I would choose a floor color that is darker than the cream, so more towards medium brown or gray-brown mix, rather dark. Regarding the flooring: I would make it consistent throughout - no patchwork, at most a separation between [Windfang] and [Diele]. Parquet should not be a problem for a kitchen, unless you are a bit careless with falling food residues. Regards

I would consistently choose vinyl. It offers you almost the durability of tiles and the appearance of wood.
