they have given you wrong advice. The irrigation is not frost-free; instead, it is simply emptied, for example, using compressed air. So you can easily catch up...

Yes, they have already been recommended to me by an acquaintance. So far, only hoses were intended.

You can still use a hand pump.
Simpler and cheaper than water columns are soil water capsules. You simply attach a PE-HD pipe to them.
There is a Gardena connection inside. Just plug in the hose.
Although, for a new system, I would always recommend installing an irrigation system. Whether it is automatically controlled or not is initially secondary...

Rick, I know, but since we have a slope and you probably can't 100% prevent water from accumulating, we were advised against it. And it was too much effort for us anyway. I have to say, we're quite satisfied with the two hose reels. The perennials hardly need watering once they are well established. We wouldn't have been able to integrate raised beds into an irrigation system anyway, and as I said: I find it almost meditative when I can water.

Of course, it looks different if you have a large lawn area – we probably would have decided differently too.

No, exactly, don’t create a slope and we really have a hillside...
Not all the water has to be removed either. Just attach the compressor and blow it through for 10 minutes. That’s it.
But if you’re that satisfied, all the better.

Briefly about the amount of water needed, because we were told 2%:

- Lawns require 20l/m2 per week. For 250m², that's 5m³. So you have to add the amount of water missing due to rain
- Hedges etc. need more

But I have a question about the pump for rick2018: For irrigation, would pressure or flow be more important? Both are usually not really possible.
