Could it be that this varies greatly by region? I can't remember our excavation causing significant costs. (And it wasn't even tested for contamination)

Delivery free of charge is good. Whether you can charge money for it is a good question. The more expensive the landfill, the worse the soil. You have to be cheaper than transport and landfill.

Exactly that is the point. In my region in southern Germany, completely uncontaminated Z0 excavation for a single-family house basement costs a five-figure sum in landfill fees. And if you're unlucky and end up with Z1 due to natural contamination, then good night...

It is perfectly fair to charge a few euros for acceptance when the "donor" of the earth already saves >10k.

I find the garden landscapers/earth movers much worse who haul something away on a construction site and dump it at the neighbor's place and charge twice.

What quantity is it about? The biggest problem was always the scheduling, finding soil or earth, respectively, when you need it.

And at the moment you want money, the other one gets so clever and wants to take advantage of it too.

I also thought about doing it like that to fill behind the garage... at some point I got too fed up and fetched it myself with the trailer.

That's how it is. He calculates his landfill offer against the delivery costs, you save what is stated (or would be stated) in the landscaper's offer. Done and dusted. Depending on quality, your savings can even be significantly greater than his. The problem is rather that ordinary excavation material is not the same as screened topsoil. So you have to consider what you need what for.

PS: We also had 800t of clay/stone/gravel mixture left over. With a bit of patience, we managed to get rid of significant portions of it for free. But I would never have thought of passing my excavator rental costs on to the recipients. Maybe the neighbor will have something tomorrow that I can use.

free delivery is already good. otherwise just compare what [deponie] costs and simply take 25%. But it has to be worthwhile for the partner. You don't want to end up needing only 5 wheelbarrows in the end
