Hello everyone,

About half a year ago, I already asked what you would recommend regarding where we should place our carport. Now the topic is becoming more serious, and a few other aspects have come up. Therefore, I am asking again. So far, we have not looked into the legal side any further. We live in the outer area of the village, and I am curious what the municipality will even allow us.

Now I need your help regarding the sensibility and especially your opinions:

"Red variant"
Advantages: Paving is already partially done, but has to be expanded (which will probably almost reach the 50 sqm that we would also have to pave with the yellow variant...)
Most of the way to the house is covered (though the rain must not come from the wrong direction then ), there are only about 4m without a roof overhead.

Disadvantages: The cars would be standing in the "garden area" again. The carport would be "right in the middle."
The garage you can still see there will be demolished (white X).
The extension of the paving will certainly be visible—that is the difference between old and new paving—and you would also have to make the paving increasingly larger (light red line).

"Yellow variant"
Advantages: The cars are somewhat "off to the side."
The "front garden area" and the "back garden area" are separated. I basically find that nicer.
The children are not supposed to stay in the front because of the busy road.

Disadvantages: About 10 m of access path still needs to be paved in order not to have to walk on the lawn from the carport to the house.
We need a 50 sqm base for the cars, paving or something else. The costs will surely be somewhat higher here.

The distances to the house are almost the same, although the path in the red variant is somewhat longer, which I personally would not have expected.

If you choose the yellow variant, which I currently find somewhat nicer, how would you then make the access path to the house? It is a lawn area of about 40 sqm.
Across the field? Along the house? Paving? Other ideas or tips?

Thank you very much for your opinions.

It says there: For a lawn mower, bicycles, as a tire hotel, etc., a garage does not need to be nice. I would leave this quasi "hut part of the carport" standing, especially in the outdoor area anyway.

Thank you for linking the old post. I can understand your point. However, we have plenty of such storage possibilities in the form of our sheds that are all standing around. And, as everyone knows, the more space, the more stuff accumulates. So theoretically, we don't rely on it. The reason why we want to tear them down is also, among other things, that we then have a somewhat clearer view into the garden from our terrace (at the house entrance, blue).

The demolition idea is understandable. I am not "flipping" back now, but the point was probably already mentioned in the old thread: in the case of outer area issues, some building authorities apply the string theory (the imagined string that encompasses the outermost building corners of a settlement), according to which I would not put planned future developments into the "offside" by demolishing existing buildings myself.

Thanks for the hint. That's nicely interesting to know. Although the garage didn’t even have a building permit #rofl Do you know if it still counts then, that is, BECAUSE it exists? We would need to think about this aspect again.

I'll leave my half-knowledge aside on this, in such matters is the expert here, or in the green forum Dimeto.
