Well, that's how row houses are. Not bad, not really good. The criticism would be that there is far too little storage space for four people, since there is no basement. I think if there were only three of you, then an entire room would remain free, which would be good. Real division, ideal division. Real means it is your house on your land with your path, your pipes, your roof. Ideal, meaning divided according to the [Wohneigentumsgesetz], means that you and your neighbors jointly own the entire block, but each has exclusive usage rights for their unit. However, the roof, pipes, access ways, heating system, gutters, downspouts, all of that is common property. The law stipulates that you then appoint and compensate a manager from among yourselves who manages, maintains, and repairs the common property. He must invite you annually to an owners' meeting, where he tells you what needs to be done when and how and what you have to pay. You must discharge him, possibly pass resolutions, build reserves. For example, if after 35 years the roof needs work, not everyone can just cover their unit, but everyone together must decide that we are now covering everything anew. Clear? Karsten
