From whom? From the tile dealer? ;) But I would be interested to know why you think it is more hygienic and what other things it prevents? Tiles have grout. Then the grout just molds. Moisture settles on tiles. Other materials can at least absorb a little and release it again. But if you ventilate properly, that is not relevant either. There is no reason to tile in areas that are not at risk of splash water. I agree with you get a horrible acoustics for that. About the question of whether you have already spoken to the construction company about the extra cost, I think you haven’t answered yet or did I overlook it?
