Hello dear people,
we heat our house with geothermal energy and are very happy with it. We built a chimney during construction - but did not install the fireplace. By now, we are also not so keen on having one. The house is evenly warm due to the relatively good insulation value, so there is hardly any desire to cozy up to a fireplace.

However, the news about power outages is making me uncertain. We could probably bridge a power outage of 1 or 2 days. But if the power goes out for longer in winter, we have no alternative heating option. Therefore, we are considering installing a small wood stove. Of course, the prices for that are sky-high and availability is partly a joke. It would also have to be connected. Do you think it still makes sense?

I think realistically you won't get a stove for this winter anymore. In that sense, the question is actually settled. And during days of power outages, you quickly get into other problems, keyword water supply. Eventually, the water towers run empty.

No. Not with regard to the "big blackout." Which, in my opinion, will not happen either. Yes. With regard to pure comfort. Firewood has become so expensive by now that it no longer makes sense as a source of heat.

Yes, yes. At least that's what the providers claim. On some marketplaces, you can specifically select "fast delivery." There are still a few...

That's what I have thought to myself the whole time as well. But now I'm really unsure. Maybe I've just listened to too much news? At the moment, after just 5 minutes of Deutschlandfunk, you already get the feeling that you have to expect the end of the world.

If the power is out for 2 days or longer.. then you can expect other problems. The panic buying of toilet paper and oil was still harmless but shows how easily the masses tick.
