Hello first of all, and now let's be honest! Did you make an irrevocable, fatal mistake when building your dream house by forgoing the basement and now regret it afterwards? I am looking for your experiences and arguments as to why this is the case so that I do not make the same mistake because I am now facing the decision with or without a basement?!

Nope, in the old house the basement was just a dumping ground - now we finally have order, even without a basement, but with a smaller storage area in the attic (which was also cheaper than building a basement). However, I really miss a home theater in the basement.

Hardly any cellarless person would admit that giving up was a mistake - I do not mean those who really do not need/want one. For us, it was a must-have also with regard to the desired room plan - never without.

We built without a basement 20 years ago and will also build without a basement for the planning of the new house. Back then due to lack of money, this time out of conviction that we don’t need one. However, we will not do without the crawl space (for suitcases and such), even though actually my dream house would have a flat roof.

A good friend once told me: "If you already have to collect arguments against a basement, then build a basement!" I honestly don't understand this argument about clutter at all. Tendency to hoard? We currently have a basement where only washing is done and my husband has his hobby workshop, where garden furniture hibernates and the cat litter box is kept. Even this basement is perfectly tidy and no part lies around uselessly serving clutter. In the new house, we do not want to dispense with this enormous spatial program and will extend it to a large office and a large music room. In addition, the basement will be fully technically equipped (underfloor heating and co). I am already very much looking forward to it! Oh, there will also be a crawl space under the roof and a storage room in the garage. But for me, that does not replace a basement!!
