Hello everyone,

a brief introduction first: I’m 43 and currently planning my first Ikea kitchen for my new apartment. Since it’s a bit tricky with non-Ikea appliances, I decided on a dishwasher from IKEA and the fridge will be a freestanding unit.

How is it with ovens from other manufacturers in Metod kitchens? Is there anything to be aware of or any special panels required?

And one more question right away: When I plan the kitchen in the kitchen planner (L-shaped), I have about 15 cm of space left at each of the two "ends". How is that usually handled? The countertop goes over it, but what about the front?

And last but not least: I don’t like tall cabinets and don’t need them either, because I get enough storage space with the base cabinets. Only when it comes to lighting I’m not quite sure yet what to do. Has anyone here had that problem and how did you solve it?

Thanks & best regards, Werner

So ovens for the 60cm niche usually fit without any problems. If it's only a 45cm one, you would need a panel.

For the 15cm at the ends, you can install a panel. Or you leave it open and install, for example, a pull-out towel holder. If you don't let the countertop go all the way to the wall, you could also store an ironing board or broom there.

Do you mean by tall cabinets the wall cabinets with 37cm depth that go above the countertop? (Tall cabinets are usually 60cm deep and at least 2m high.)

I would maybe install at least a few narrow shelves there to attach the lighting to them.
for example

15 cm is quite a lot. First, one should see if this can be reduced by a changed plan.

At the moment I am more or less working on a ceiling light consisting of a door with built-in lights. Something like that could also be imagined above the L.

First of all, sorry for the wrong choice of words: I obviously meant wall cabinet and not tall cabinet! Thanks for the tip about the L-wall shelf. Although the one linked from IKEA doesn't match my color preference, I'll find something suitable. Underneath that, I'll screw on the Osram Powerstixx that I already have lying around here anyway! Where can one find the mentioned covers for "free spaces" in the IKEA shop? I have searched through the entire shop but can't find anything. (The 15cm distance to the wall may possibly be reduced, but if not, I would still have the countertop go all the way to the wall because I hate it when ironing boards, etc., get stuffed in randomly. Fortunately, I have a storage room for that.) Thanks & regards, Werner

They call these cover panels:

You just have to pick the matching decor.

But you could also cut yourself a door (if you have a frameless front) and build a small shelf behind it yourself.

Something like the Franke Cube 10 could also be built behind the mounting panel.
