Hello everyone. We are considering building possibly two stories. Currently, we have planned a knee wall of 2.20m. However, we were told that with this knee wall on the eaves side, a large window including roller shutter cannot be installed. At the same time, there is a thread where a knee wall of 2.20 is also planned, but according to the thread starter, normal windows including roller shutters are supposed to be installed there. That surprises me a bit now. In my opinion, a maximum 1.60m window can be installed there without roller shutter, since the box 30cm + insulation and floor must still be deducted. Can someone tell me how high the knee wall must be at least so that a large window including roller shutter can be installed? By the way, has anyone built like this? Many thanks in advance for your help

What is considered normal height for you? We have 250 cm from the finished floor level to the ceiling height on the upper floor, and there are windows with [Rollladen] installed. The lintel of the rough opening is about 245 cm, and the finished window then has a frame height of 220 cm. Now you need to know what requirements you have for a window. I find the height comfortable; anything lower I might already find disturbing. Alternatively, you could omit the [Rollläden].

Ok, asked differently, how high does the upper floor have to be to be able to install large windows with shutters? 2.50 - 2.60 m?

I think you have a misconception, you can order any window at any height and combine it with shutters.
Whether it's a 1m knee wall or a full story.

Or what are you planning?

It probably means on the [drempel] side, not the gable end. Basically, it's more a question of how high the [drempel] will be :) Of course, it's true that on the lower side, no very tall windows will fit. But consider that with a normal [drempel], only skylights would fit. Either a proper town villa, or raise the [drempel], or smaller windows, or no shutters on these windows.

We were in Frechen today at the model park. There were houses that had installed a 40 cm high window on the upper floor at about 100 m height, including a roller shutter. That’s how we imagine it for us. Does this have precedent? Has anyone of you built something like this and have pictures?
