Special things are built with special people. Look around locally for someone who would really be happy to realize this with you. A good architect will hardly participate happily in an unchangeable plan. You don’t need a mediocre architect. A “yes-man” who just follows your ideas would be a guarantee for a difficult construction phase. A general contractor can smile and pull the wool over your eyes regarding your own ideas. As a construction professional, you would ask different questions and this also seems to be your first construction project. My tip: linger a bit longer in the planning phase and review your design with an architect with open ears and eyes, and be ready for suggestions and criticism. Your wife seems to have the right instinct here. Getting this feedback doesn’t have to be done in the forum. Please show a bit more respect for our neighbors. In Poland, people understand a lot about quality and no longer have to be “cheap.”

Poles can also be good craftsmen. Often they are just taken because it has to be done cheaply. Whether they are all good specialized craftsmen - I leave that open. I know 2 who built with a Polish crew. A) through a large German general contractor. Partly the same people in different trades. As expected, months after the planned acceptance there were still corrections. B) intentionally. As much as possible for little money. A crew that does almost everything. They may be good craftsmen, all-rounders. It doesn't look bad, but there are defects that our expert would not have approved and our general contractor would have had a heart attack over the workmanship. It is, as so often, you get what you pay for. A big problem was the language barrier in both cases. What's the use of good material if the instructions for processing are not understood? What's the use of a good craftsman who has to guess what he is supposed to do?

I built my first house about 40 years ago, and I still live in it today.
Poroton bricks, triple glazing, underfloor heating and at the same time radiators; heat pump for the base load; ventilated exterior insulation, plastered the interior walls with sump cold, 1.4 m roof overhang, driveway and outdoor areas only in natural stone, travertine in the living area, large garage with windows and pit. To this day, not a single problem or damage to the building. And everything self-planned and executed.

And the newly planned house is for the son with family.
They don’t have my experience and level of knowledge, but they are doing great in terms of optimal planning.
They are accompanied by my friend (architect himself) and other experts in a built network.
They have private websites where they exchange ideas etc. with their network.
Thus, all parts are thoroughly examined from the technical side and also from the cost side.
Due to their educational background and experience, they have sufficient skills to realize such a project.

I myself, as a retired grandfather, wanted to perhaps also contribute something new through forums on the side...
Now maybe you understand why I do not publish this plan here.

......and instead prefer to pinch others in the calf who bravely show their great project here.

That should suffice for a piece of wisdom that, to put it nicely, is not immediately apparent in your posts.

Honestly, I also do not see the causal connection. By the way, you are only retired as a grandpa when your great-grandchildren are grown up ;-)
